Why the Quality of Tallow Matters in Skincare
Share
Introduction
You wouldn’t put just anything on your skin—so why settle for low-quality tallow?
As more people turn toward natural skincare and ancestral beauty rituals, tallow is making a well-deserved comeback. It’s deeply nourishing, packed with skin-loving nutrients, and highly compatible with our skin's natural structure. But here’s the truth: not all tallow is created equal.
In this post, I'm sharing why the quality of your tallow matters, how to spot the difference, and why Udder Glow only uses the best.
What Is Tallow, Exactly?
Tallow is rendered (melted) animal fat—usually from cows—and it’s been used for centuries to moisturize, heal, and protect the skin. It contains skin-essential vitamins like A, D, E, and K, plus conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which is known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties.
At Udder Glow, I use a special kind of tallow called suet—a dense, clean fat found around the kidneys. Suet is the purest and most nutrient-rich part of the cow’s fat, and it creates a silky, non-greasy balm that melts effortlessly into your skin.
The Problem with Low-Quality Tallow
Unfortunately, not all tallow is clean or nourishing. Many brands use grain-fed, factory-farmed tallow that lacks nutrients and may even harm your skin.
Here’s why low-quality tallow is a problem:
❌ Lower nutritional content – Less vitamins and skin benefits
❌ Potential toxins – From hormones, antibiotics, and GMO feed
❌ Strong odor & gritty texture – Due to poor rendering processes
❌ Unknown origins – You don’t really know what you’re putting on your skin
Cheap tallow may cost less, but your skin pays the price.
Why Grass-Fed Suet Tallow Is Better
We believe your skin deserves the best nature has to offer. That’s why grass-fed, suet-derived tallow is the only kind we use.
Here’s why it makes a difference:
🌿 Nutrient-dense – More vitamins A, D, E, K and healthy fats
✨ Clean source – No hormones or antibiotics
💧 Skin-compatible – Mimics human sebum for better absorption
🐄 Ethically raised – Pasture-raised cows = sustainable, humane practices
You’ll see and feel the difference—from the very first application.
How Udder Glow Sources & Renders Tallow
I go above and beyond to ensure every product is as pure and effective as possible.
At Udder Glow, I source only from regenerative small farms raising 100% grass-fed cows, and only use kidney suet. Why? Because suet is cleaner, richer, and better for your skin- it also has little to no smell!
The dry rendering (meaning nothing is added during rendering) process is slow and gentle, preserving every nutrient and eliminating any impurities. This creates a creamy, very mild-smelling tallow that glides onto the skin and delivers deep hydration and nourishment. Other companies feel the need to wet render- adding water and salt while melting the fat- to "purify" and take the stinkiness out. This denatures or kills many of the beneficial vitamins and fats.

Final Thoughts: Choose Better for Your Skin
If you care about what you put in your body, it’s time to care about what you put on it too.
Choosing high-quality, grass-fed tallow is one of the simplest ways to transform your skincare routine naturally. At Udder Glow, I promise purity, transparency, and skincare that actually works—without compromise.
Something I feel is important to add: For my own cooking, I use 100% Grass-fed Tallow. This tallow is sourced from all over the cows body-it's also called trim fat. It's a lot cheaper that suet (kidney) fat and also a lot stinkier. This is because full body fat has more blood vessels, ligaments and other parts that contribute to the stink- but when cooking this doesn't bother me one bit AND it adds so much good flavor to my food, I highly recommend for any cooking and frying!
